Tactical Emotions.
The following images outline my complete design process from thought to final creation of a fully up-cycled vintage military duffle bag and wool blanket into a 2 piece vest and trouser set. My main focus and inspiration came from my own feelings of existentialism and the unique ways in which that can be communicated. The verbal overlays in many of the images resonate with the emotions we may feel contrary to how we may express them, and what they may manifest into left unchecked. I was set on the idea of feed sacks for the fabric due to the unique prints and graphics that exist on them. Upon reconstruction, their graphic overlays would create new patterns all while still deriving from the same original piece.
Ultimately I ended up being able to source a duffle bag instead, almost as a happy accident. The natural look and feel coupled with the mixed fabrics of the bag similarly resonated with everything I wanted to express….Raw unfiltered (controlled) emotions.
